A collection of four manufactured masks, altered through embellishment and traditional textile techniques to re-contextualizes their original purpose of protecting and hiding the wearers face to an avant-garde model of self-expression.

Although I made these pieces back in 2017, I found myself unearthing my art archive to pull them out again during the pandemic, regaining new life and a deeper political meaning especially during the second outbreak in Melbourne. An extra layer of protection, an expression of consideration for our fellow person and to some a political statement. Each mask is a statement in itself, becoming a walking oxymoron when worn adding personality and context of the wearer while hiding half of their face, protecting them.
